Years of shipbuilding & shiprepair experience in the Middle East

In 1978, Ali Albwardy was asked by H.H. Shaikh Rashid to set up Al Jadaf as a maritime city inside Dubai Creek. At the same time, Ali Albwardy formed Albwardy Marine Engineering LLC (AME) as the first company in Al Jadaf. In 2008, Kommer Damen and Ali Albwardy reached an agreement for Damen to buy a 49% stake in AME. Shortly thereafter the Board agreed to build Damen Shipyards Sharjah (DSS) in the Hamriyah Free Zone. H.H. Dr. Sheikh Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah did the official inauguration of DSS in January 2008.

40th anniversary

In 2018 we celebrated our 40th anniversary with our founder and even some of the original employees from the early years. We also opened our new Dubai office and workshop in Dubai Maritime City.

Today

Today we have a total workforce of around 1800 people of 26 different nationalities in our three UAE locations: Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah. Our people are our biggest asset, and we are proud that 15% of our staff has been with us for 25+ years.
